More than a venue—a legacy of love and community

A One-of-a-Kind Wedding Venue

Nestled in the Root River Valley, The Mill on Rush Creek is a wedding venue set in a historic 1875 limestone mill. With a limited number of weddings each year, our unique setting offers an unforgettable backdrop—the perfect place to begin your love story.

A Legacy of History

The story of “The Mill” in Rushford began in 1856 when Hiram Walker and Roswell Valentine built the original Walker Mill, helping shape the young village. After a fire in 1874, the Valentine and Tew Mill was built in 1875, using native limestone that still endures today. For decades, it produced flour for the community and surrounding region before closing its milling operations in 1936.

Over the years, the mill saw many chapters—from flour and grain, to hatcheries, and a café. Most recently, the Hoiland family lovingly cared for the property for decades, preserving it as a landmark while creating new memories for the community.

In 2024, the Bruder’s became the proud new owners, Today the mill begins another chapter as The Mill on Rush Creek—a place where history and new beginnings come together.

Our Story

We’re Carrie and Jeff, the owners of The Mill on Rush Creek. We were raised in small Minnesota towns and always shared a love of history, architecture, and design. Jeff studied history in college and spent over 35 years teaching special education before recently retiring. Carrie built her career in architecture, design, and business ownership, alongside her work as a professional wedding photographer, capturing hundreds of celebrations.

When we first walked through the historic 1875 Mill, it was love at first sight. We couldn’t stop thinking about the possibilities—how the craftsmanship and history could be preserved while welcoming new memories. It felt like a place where history and new beginnings could meet.

Today, we’re proudly to devoting our energy into The Mill on Rush Creek as a space for couples, families, and the Rushford community.

Our vision is simple: to honor the past while creating unforgettable experiences in a truly timeless setting.
